Last week the East Dayton Senior Collaborative held it's program at the Widows Home of Dayton. SICSA Pet Adoption Services brought along two kittens and a dog for our participants to hold and play with. They demonstrated the importance that pets can have on our lives. Participants loved to hold the kittens, Cuddle Puddle and CareBear. Pets can bring a smile to anyone's face and brighten lives!
Last Tuesday, the East Dayton Senior Collaborative took a field trip to the Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton. Most of the group took to the Korean War exhibit, where they were able to see many of the incredible aircrafts and memorabilia of the US Air Force during that time. The exhibit gave an inside look at the conditions that the soldiers faced in Korea during the war and was a perfect follow up to a speaker from the Korean War Memorial in Dayton that visited the EDSC in May. Participants were in awe of some of the exhibit's aircrafts. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing such an important part of our nations history! In addition to programs held at the LEC, Widows Home of Dayton, and Community Church, the EDSC plans field trips to area points of interest twice a year.
![]() Thank you Maple Tree Cancer Alliance Exercise for keeping us in shape! Today we had our monthly fitness program with Maple Tree Cancer Alliance at the Community Church. Keeping active is incredibly important at any age, but seeing our participants stay active is inspiring to us. Thank you to Brittany from Maple Tree for helping out today! We celebrated Flag Day last week with We Care Arts! We appreciate everything that We Care Arts does for us in preparation for our programs. Last week they cut out over 1,500 stars, as well as all of the stripes for our participants to make these lovely American flags.
Today, at our weekly program and were honored to host Target Dayton Ministries. Target Dayton Ministries is a church community that is home to many many people who have been lost throughout their lives. Through TDM they have found God and seen the love that Christ can offer them. We were lucky enough to hear many testimonies from the choir, including one from our weekly participant, Claire.
In the photo above, the singers are holding signs of what they have learned, gained, and overcome through attending church and choir at Target Dayton Ministries. Thank you again to Target Dayton Ministries for blessing us with their presence this week! East Dayton Senior Collaborative (EDSC) participants have enjoyed completing several art projects in 2016 courtesy of We Care Arts, a non-profit that provides art therapy programs to seniors and persons with disabilities. We Care Arts was able to provide these classes to EDSC seniors free of charge as part of a grant-funded program called the Creative Aging Project. Projects included painting and collage. The East Dayton Senior Collaborative meets weekly on Thursdays from 11:30-1:30 and is open to East Dayton seniors 55 and older. A meal is provided. For locations and more information, call (937) 252-5700 ext. 3227 or find out more online. We are the East Dayton Senior Collaborative. Our mission is to help under-served Seniors of the East Dayton, OH, area. We do this by hosting programs every Thursday. At the programs we give out free lunch to each participant and invite a speaker to talk to the seniors about educational topics, health and wellness, and other various categories. This also gives the seniors a time where they can socialize outside of the home. Any senior in the East Dayton Area over 55 is eligible to participate, please visit our contact page if you are interested!
